How To Be Successful As a COMIC BOOK OUTCAST — Inspiring True Story

Probably the biggest outcast of the comic book medium is probably the biggest success of all times. Who is it?Probably the biggest outcast of the comic book medium is probably the font MS COMIC SANS. However, the font has risen to the leader boards of almost every comic book novelty out there.

COMIC SANS 1000 FANS

This font has been shunned by every comic creator in the business, yet it is probably the most widely used and comic-related font there is. Millions of computer users around the world use this font for any fun party-related or type of comic style on websites and party favors to the boos and hisses of almost everyone in the comic book world.

The point is that the industry can either continue to shun people, places, and thingsĀ  that are different, or when something obviously catches public attention and awareness, you can embrace it as good fortune–no matter what it is. You’ve gotten a message out there.

You have to meet people where they are. If people get interested in comics because of a little font called comic sans, we should say thank you to Comic Sans and welcome it into the family.

ACCEPTED BY THE COMIC BOOK COMMUNITY?

I used to be of the same mindset. As a designer, I couldn’t stand to use comic sans font. But I had to change my mind about it. Reluctantly, against all fighting and prowess I could muster, we actually included it in one of our books. In the Jamestown division of McGraw-Hill’s World History Ink — Independence of South America, we used comic sans, because it was the only font that was not only clear, but had all the special characters to make the atilde for Latin spelling of words.

The style actually worked in that book, too. I think we gave Comic Sans some better PR that day in the comic book world.

COMIC SANS ON MARS

However, comic sans didn’t need us. It didn’t care. It went right on winning bigger and bigger fans. In doing holiday shopping, I found that you can get personalizedĀ M & M’s on their site. You can put a picture on each M and you can type your own message right on that little round chocolate candy. There are only 2 fonts you can use: Arial and Comic Sans.

COMIC SANS CHANGES THE FUTURE OF COMICS

You can go on and keep being angry how the world doesn’t fit into your little world of what you think comics should be or you can embrace the fact that comic book medium is bigger than what you have perceived. The medium will grow and expand. The people that open their eyes to the biggger capabilities of the media will keep getting more and more fans and we probably won’t care that you want comics to be all about art, creative style, or font choices.
